About the Appeal
Chairman’s Message
Welcome to the St. Vincent’s Cancer Centre Appeal.
My name is Greg Hargrave, and I am the Chairman of this important appeal which aims to raise $14.8 million to build a new cancer centre in the Daly Wing of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne – a centre that will double the number of patients we can care for every single day.
Why do we need a new centre? Well, the facts are:
- Cancer now rivals heart disease as the biggest single killer of Australians. And it looks set to become the biggest killer worldwide as well.
- In Victoria, 25,000 are diagnosed with cancer each year
- Each year, more than 10,000 Victorians will die from Cancer.
- By 2018 Government figures estimate an increase in the need for cancer care of 30%
- St Vincent’s is one of the top five centres in Victoria and treats up to 115 cancer patients each day.
If you have five minutes to spare, you may like to watch this short video which will show you why there is an urgent need.
Will you join us to change the way a person feels about cancer?
We hope you will join us on the journey.
Greg Hargrave
Appeal Chairman
